The Ayat al-Kursi - Verse of the Thrown The Ayat al-Kursi is the 255th verse in the second Sura of the Quran. It is titled Verse of the Throne and as is its title makes clear it is described as being the greatest verse in the entire Quran. The verse is shown below along with the translation: There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory). Virtues of the Verse: Compared to other verses The ayah is the greatest(Muslim) verse in the Quran and leader of all other verses(Tirmidhi) . The Greatest name of Allah is contained in it Abu Umamah (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said that the ismullahi al- a'dham (The Greatest Name of Allah), through which Allah assuredly fulfils people's needs, is contained in three surahs in the Qur'an: al-Baqarah, Al Imran and Taha. Abu Umamah (radiAllahu anhu) says that when he searched for the ismullahi al- a'dham, he found it to be in Ayat al-kursi (2:255); and in Surah Al-Imran (3:2); and in Surah Taha (20:111).
